30 Days of Truth, Day 19

Day 19 → What do you think of religion? Or what do you think of politics?

Religion and politics are facts of life. Sadly, they are often incendiary and divisive topics.


Politics is the bastard child of what used to be protection from outside forces and making sure that people who were less capable of defending themselves were protected. It's become a game of power and money, and a career unto itself, instead of being servants of the people the way the Founding Fathers intended. It's often frustrating to see folks in Washington so disconnected from their constituents, and beholden to various lobbyists and interest groups. And guess what, my friends. No one is exempt from it, Democrat, Republican, or other. Anyone who thinks differently is naive or deluding themselves.


Religion is, in some ways, a similar perversion of what it was meant to do. It was meant to connect us with the divine, to answer philosophical questions about who we are and why we're here. It also tries to help us deal with our fears about things beyond our control, such as death, the unpredictability of nature and the elements. Some even began as traditions to carry on wise words from great men. It too, for the most part, has turned into a power game, at least on some levels. I do believe that, when it comes to the rank and file people, and in some case, even their preachers, pastors, imams, rabbis, gurus, priests and other clergy, mean well enough truly believe what they claim (to varying degrees) and only want the best for themselves and loved ones (and those they shepherd, in the case of clergy). Quite the opposite of how I feel about politics, I know. But it's how I feel. ^_^
